Hello all.
I have two computers, one is running Windows 7 and the other XP; I know, I know, XP is old school now. The thing is I actually have two embossers, both capable of printing Braille hooked up to each computer. However, I have a very old Basic D printer, which doesn't work very well with WindBraille.
I have a newer embosser, an Index Everest V3. It is installed on my computer with Windows 7. My question is do you know if there is a way for the Everest to be shared on my network? Then, how would I send a document to the printer and have the Braille translation software translate it into Braille?
Thanks.
If the printer has that ability, you'd need to install the drivers/program on all machines you want it to work with.
When you do this, if it has the ability while installing, you'll see this option in the program.
Same as with a regular printer.
If your router has a USB port, you could connect the printer to it, and set it up in the router to accept the signal.
Does the printer have wireless?
Where is the manual?
Hi there.
My router doesn't have a USB port, so out of options there. The printer isn't wireless, but does have an ether net jack; the problem is that my computer with Duxbury isn't in the same room as the one with the router. Not sure the manual can be found. I'm using Duxbury version 11.1 SR 4. Any help would be appreciated.
We talked about this. Connect the printer to the router like a computer, and you got it.
Otherwise you need a wireless adapter setup. One goes in the printer, the receiver in the router.
?That manual's online someplace I'd bet. Read it.
what versions of XP and 7 do you have? I know some versions of 7 support
printer sharing over the network. so, you need to network your computers,
share the printer. and then add the embosser to that second machine.
Now, you'll need your braille translation software on the second machine,
because you're going to be translating, and embossing your text from that
machine. Once you have the embosser networked, and its showing up in your
braille translator of choice, you emboss like you normally would.
It doesn't matter the type of printer. A very long time ago I helped a blind woman set up a Braille printer in her office, but for it to work we set it up as a text-only printer.
Now to share it, you do like you would any other printer: Righ clik the printer and click Share the options are available and you can read how to do it. No diferent than for any other printer.
Then, on the second machine, when you go to Add Printer, you select Network printer, and find it in your group, and let Windows install the drivers.
If your Braille printer has actual drivers, then use that instead of Text-Only Printer, but it will be exactly the same for sharing it.
